I will watch Gonzo no matter how bad it is because Gonzo always has something amusing - either being totally retarded or pretty awesome. Last Exile is an example of a really good anime with good action that doesn’t resort to mecha or in this case, badly rendered CGI dragons. Even Witchblade redeemed itself after the first ten episodes or so and the action definitely was NOT wholly dependent on BADLY RENDERED DRAGONS. Come on, if you want to render something, do it with integrity. Half-assed, cheap looking things isn’t going to improve your already sub par anime. I mean, maybe they decided it that it was going to suck anyway so they didn’t even bother trying with the dragons. Budget preserving tactic yes, but it’s also shoddy work ethic. And what the hell is an album? You can’t just use english words that have entirely different meanings than what you think they mean.

About the episode itself: first of all, the Jin character must really not be too intelligent (which is how they always are, very angsty and angry - not enough intelligence) if he had to ask Toa “What are you?” towards the end of the episode. I can’t recall whether or not he was conscious in the first episode when she fought, flew and carried him like a feather but that’s not exactly commonplace. Yes, it seems that there are others like her but he apparently didn’t know about the dragons until this episode so instead of holding hands randomly in a natural scene down by the seashore, you’d think he would have been like “Um…what the hell did you just do?”. Yes, he did that when the organization was explaining to him all about how Thanatos has extraterrestrial lifeforms that resemble dragons and how he should become a dragonaut to defend Earth. But he needed more “What the hell?!” lines because well…what the hell?! How can Jin be so dumb as to be like “Yeah, I see girls like Toa every day” and then act like an asshole when MORE THAN ONE PERSON is seriously trying to explain to him a situation that puts everyone’s lives at risk. Selfish bastard syndrome! Not that this organization seems good; it’s probably one of Gonzo’s token twisted organization with lots of twisted characters and one evil female scientist.

Kazuki, his friend IS a coward but cowards are abundant in these types of show and his cowardice could have been amped up. The animation sequences for Toa fighting distorts her anatomy so much it’s rather unsightly. I’m not sure why she seems to be in love with Jin and saved him, continues saving him and comes on to him like there’s no tomorrow. Maybe there’s a prophecy somewhere on dragonworld aka Thanatos, that a boy on Earth named Jin would defeat the evil dragons and Toa, the last of her species must seduce him to her side. So the whole “resonance” aspect is when a dragonaut is the master in the master-slave relationship and his or her dragon is connected to them via resonance. I want my very own dragon bitch slave too. That’d get rid of my neighbours swell.

Oh, and I bet Jin has magical super dragonaut powers…so much that he will own all the other boobed up people.

Well, all I can say is that I will continue watching and probably blogging because this show is just that bad and I hope all of the blue haired, purple haired, red haired, blah haired characters die one after the other because it’s not like anyone knows their name or will remember them even if they stay in the show. And with shows like these, I imagine they’ll start to have freak outs like the one in this episode and we’ll see lots of hilariously rendered dragons. That’s entertainment!
