If you’ve been keeping up with my manga reviews on this, the following paragraphs should be familiar to you right now.
Seisou Academy is no regular academy. Its very existence came from a young man who loved everything about music. One day, this young man encountered an injured fairy whom he befriended and took care of. Because of his generosity, the fairy named Lili granted the young man’s wish. Thus, Seisou Academy was built. The academy divides its student population into two groups: those who wear the gray uniforms are the “regular” students, and those who wear the cream-colored uniforms are students who have chosen their musical instrument as their course of study. Every year, the academy holds an annual musical competition. Usually, only students from the music department are chosen. However, this year, someone from the “regular” class has been chosen as a participant! A student from the general department, a second year named Hino Kahoko, will also be participating!
Here’s a quick rundown of the first five episodes of La Corda d’Oro: Hino Kahoko is running late to school, takes a breather by the statue at the entrance, hears a fairy, freaks out, dashes into class, and then, hears her name mentioned in the list of participants who are participating in this year’s musical competition. Goes to a practice room, fairy appears and explains, fairy gives her a violin, and she runs into ultra-cool Tsukomori-kun. She stands up for Fuyuumi-chan, has to perform an impromptu performance, overhears Tsukomori-kun playing Schubert’s Ave Maria, decides to play same piece on rooftop and realizes that she was able to play it, Lili is happy and gives her more musical pieces, and a fellow contestant joins her in her impromptu performance! Kaho-chan discovers something new and exciting about her soccer-playing friend and the first concert of the musical competition brings in a wonderful surprise!
Needless to say, the first episode is very similar to the first volume. Actually, the first three volumes are basically the first five episodes. (And maybe episode six as well, but don’t quote me on that). And really, as an anime, La Corda d’Oro is beautiful, both in its artwork and music. Schubert’s Ave Maria on violin is like heaven… it makes me want to learn how to play violin. Having played piano for years, I’m quite familiar with Chopin, but I’ve always been curious about the violin. The cello is a bit intimidating for me; it’s practically half my size or bigger… hmm.
Anyways, La Corda is better suited for animation; though, the manga and its panels are quite beautiful. The only throwback to the manga is the fact that you can’t hear the performances. My luck for finding the game has been quite unsuccessful. I think I’d have to order it off somewhere, but we’ll see. If anyone wants me to do an episode by episode synopsis, just let me know. Doing it that way will give me a total of twenty five reviews in the end ^_^ Hmm. I can kind of see myself do that.
We’ll see. Ten out of ten Pocky sticks!
PS. Sorry for the quick review of the first five. I didn’t want to be too redundant. The next set of episodes shouldn’t be too redundant. And Senna, yes, it’s a dating sim game. At least, I think it is. Don’t quote me on that ^_^
