This last week Music Station had the most impressive guest list ever: Gackt, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi, KAT-TUN, Yuna Ito, and Maroon 5. For all of you who don’t know what Music Station is, it’s basically a weekly Japanese music variety show. So what’s up with Gackt? Basically, Gackt originally came in looking normal in his regular clothes
and overdosed on pot . After Yuna Ito performed, he just randomly showed up sitting next to the hosts donning his zombie samurai outfit. At first, the audience and the guests) were just smiling but they burst out laughing like ten seconds later. And while there was no close up of Maroon 5’s astonished faces but I could see them in the back giving him weird looks XD. The poor guys looked so awkward and confused the whole time; this probably didn’t help. Now onto the wonderful performances.
1. Hide and Seek-Namie Amuro
So the Queen of Hip Pop is back from her PV set with the same outfit, coreography, and whip. The weird thing is that in the beginning her voice seemed really scratchy because of a jacked up microphone or something. Namie’s a strong performer and she really brings her the marching-band-sailor style into the performance. On another note, I never really realized until now how sexual Namie’s Engrish was. It’s time to BANG BANG BANG BANG your head. LAWL.
2. Your Side-KAT-TUN (intro)
Yorokobi no Uta-KAT-TUN (actual performance)
So at first, it looked as if KAT-TUN was going to perform Your Side in front of a white background but they unveiled the sheet and KAT-TUN was really stuck in the middle of a huge crowd of screaming fangirls XD. I’ve never seen this on Music Station before and I found it hilarious (nobody else got the screaming fangirls). At one point, all the members went down from the stage and were almost mobbed alive LAWL. Humor aside, this was a pretty strong performance since it seemed as if they concentrated more on the singing and left the dancing for the end.
3. FREAKY-Koda Kumi
Koda Kumi brought her hyperactive enthusiasm and continued the chain of strong performance. Surprisingly, she was also decently clothed. Is she trying to clean up her image? Anyways, she sang and danced with a lot of the power that she had in the PV. She even did the mock sparring that she had in the PV ^^.
4. Tobiuo no Butterfly-Chatmonchy
I feel kind of sorry for Chatmonchy because while they’re not bad, no one’s really going to remember them because they’re overshadowed by all the big names. Anyways, they’re basically a cutsey pop band with the lead singer having a REALLY high pitched voice. It’s okay but it’s not really my taste of music. Oh and for another random note, I think the guitarist’s shirt said “visit Kazakhastan” XD.
5. Mahaloha-Yuna Ito feat. Micro of Def-Tech
For all of you who are wondering who Yuna Ito is, she’s the actress/singer of Reira from the NANA live-action. Anyways, she’s here with her childhood friend singing a very summery Hawaiian thing. Both Yuna Ito and Micro deliver strong vocals and work really well together. I originally hated this song but after listening to the performance its not that bad now. Also the stage is really pretty ^^.
6. RETURNER~Yami no Shuuen~
So Gackt’s back in his zombie samurai suit. He’s also brought a really weird microphone this time. Besides his odd appearance, this is another strong performance once again. My only complaint is that I had trouble hearing his vocals during the chorus because it seemed as if the pre-recorded background music and vocals were overpowering him. Other than that, I really liked it. I wonder if he’s gonna perform it at AX.
7. MAKES ME WONDER-Maroon 5
So the American band, Maroon 5 closes off Music Station with a strong performance of MAKES ME WONDER. It’s a pretty flawless performance and Maroon 5 sang it in a different key to mix it up a bit. It makes up for them acting really lost and confused the whole time.
I guess this wins for being the best Music Station EVER. It makes last week’s Music Station with YUI, Crystal Kay, and Suga Shikao look pathetic. A random thing to note is that a lot of the artists were acting pretty funny with both Koda Kumi and Micro acting like they were sugar high or something. There were a lot of jokes during the show and about half of them seemed to concern Gackt XD. Right before Maroon 5’s performance, Gackt was seen without his right arm. At the end, when all the artists had to stand up, I noticed that Namie Amuro seemed to be trying to stand as far away from Gackt as possible LOL. Great job Music Station! I hoped this boosted your rankings.

June 26th, 2007 at 1:26 pmGod, I love Maroon 5. “Makes Me Wonder” sounds very different from their past songs, (You would never guessed that they played “Sunday Morning!”) but just as good as ever.
Nice to see they got a good impression of the Japanese, eh?

June 26th, 2007 at 2:00 pmYeah Makes Me Wonder is SO awesome. Actually, all the songs (except Mahaloha and that Butterfly song) are really, really awesome because its top-notch quality by the best artists. Oh and yeah all celebrities act weird on Music Station. Maroon 5’s probably the only one that’s gonna have nightmares though XD.

June 27th, 2007 at 7:17 amThis is very rare for Music Station to have such an awesome lineup. Reminds me of the time that Ken Hirai, Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, and Crystal Kay were all on Music Station. Only this is better @_@.

June 30th, 2007 at 5:24 pmHaha, great job with review. I’ve been looking everywhere for anything to do with Maroon 5 and after reading this, I couldn’t stop laughing at Maroon 5’s confusion at Gackt’s outfit. I expected nothing less from that but I can’t wait to see the episode.
