Top 7 Shows I’m Looking Forward to This Summer
Amanda Liu June 9, 2007
It feels like the spring season just started and summer’s here already. Judging from the fact that I never actually follow my season preview watch lists, I’m only guaranteeing first impression posts of these seven series. So don’t be surprised if I drop one (or most) of these and blog something I didn’t mention here.
Supposedly this is supposed to be another series full of unrelated one-shots or arcs. I normally like series full of one-shots or short arcs and the mention of mafias makes this 1930’s series appeal more and more to me. I’m definitely looking out for this.
Apparently, the one chick with glasses can disrupt technology. I have NO CLUE what else this is supposed to be about but I like the artwork and the whole disruptting techonlogy ability. Now I’m just praying this isn’t another harem…..
When I first read the summary somewhere I thought this was some twisted future version of Romeo and Juliet. Guy meets girl at railroad crossing. Love at first sight. Girl’s getting hunted down by some organization and now more organizations are after her…..Anyways. It looks interesting.
I remember seeing another pic from which I assume is this anime and really liking the artwork. The story is apparently based off a video game where this random dude turns into a sheep and has to collect seven pieces of a star. I’m hoping for pretty artwork and cute romance here ^^.
This is apparently supposed to be a “tragic comedy”. Huh? How the heck can something be tragically comical? Either way, I heard it was really good from people and the artwork reminds me of Gankutsuou. Oh and is it just me or does that main guy look like Watanuki?
So this is going to be a four part OVA according to Anime News Network. Apparently its based on some shounen video game on how a guy fights in a different and politically corrupt world. Or from what I heard. OVAs are usually much more bearable hence why I’ll check this out.
Zombie Loan
I’ve actually read the first two volumes of the manga which is why I have a longer entry for this one. This series starts out with this loli girl named Michiru who no longer cares about living. Things change when she meets these two undead bishouen who are desperately cling onto their lives even though they are forced under contract to hunt down zombies. The three meet, ideals clash, and unforseen things happen.
Here’s what stuns me the most. Houko Kuwashima is playing as Michiru. What the…? For all of you people who don’t know their seiyuus, Houko Kuwashima generally plays roles of rather strong women (correct me if I’m wrong) such as Sango from Inuyasha, Claire from Claymore, and Shurrei from Saiunkoku Monogatari to name a few. Michiru is a complete opposite of that and is always being pushed around, ESPECIALLY in the beginning. It’s really going to bug me and I’m wondering if Houko Kuwashima can pull it off. Not to diss any of her fans but really this doesn’t seem like a good casting choice.
I can’t really judge anything else because the trailer was pretty uninformative. The only thing it gave off was what looked like a typical shounen series when Zombie-loan is more of a shoujo. The emphasis, in the manga at least, was more on the character development and relationships. The battles were pretty forgetable to be honest and it looked more as if it was just put in there to give the characters something to do. I’m really afraid XEBEC will mess up the whole series and try to cut out the character development and relationships and try to focus all on the action. While
Lastly, for those who are interested in watching Zombie-loan, let me warn you know. THE BEGINNING SUCKS. It wasn’t really untill the end of the first volume when things became interesting. Or when I was actually awake. So I’m giving Zombie-loan about a 5 or 6 grace period before dropping it. Overall, I’m looking forward to to this show the most (duh) but I don’t expect it to become one of my favorites for the predictably strong summer season.

June 9th, 2007 at 11:31 amI’m looking forward to a lot of the same shows as you ^_^ I’ve gotten pretty hyped up over Tales of Symphonia — I’ve only played a bit of the game, but my best friend loves it and I’m a big fan of the Tales series of games in general — but I don’t know if they’ll be able to squeeze what seems like a fairly complex plot into four episodes. At the least, it certainly looks like it’ll be very pretty to watch *_*

June 9th, 2007 at 12:52 pmInteresting info you have on Zombie Loan, I’m actually looking forward to it now. The director is currently doing Hitohira, so I think that he’ll be able to handle this nshoujo-series well.

psgels>I’m clueless about directors so I’m assuming that’s a good thing. Oh and I forgot to add that while the manga got better it still wasn’t great (up to the part that scanalations stopped) but maybe it grew to be amazing later. We’ll see. Just don’t blame me if Zombie loan turns out to be a piece of crap XP.
