Random Spring Season Progress Report
Amanda Liu June 1, 2007
Well I’ve been having trouble with my computer and internet connection for awhile so I figured I’d just post my thoughts on the series I’ve watched so far.
Pass:
Seirei no Moribito (1-6): In my opinion, this is THE series from the Spring 2007. While the plot is admitedly rather slow; the well developed characters, the top-notch soundtrack, and the stunning animation make up for all that. Also, episode 3 was holy.
Darker than BLACK (1-7): Despite the rather dull beginning, it proved in later arcs to be one of the top series of the season. I like Hei despite the fact that he reminds me of L. Consistent animation and music help too. Overall, it’s really the atmosphere and the character development that stands out.
Claymore (1-9): I started watching this a couple weeks ago after discovering how addicting the manga was in Barnes and Nobles. The anime is doing a decent job with the adaptation so far with the music being an added plus. I’m looking forward to the scenes from volume 7…..
Romeo x Juliet (1-7): To be honest, I started this series purely because I felt obligated to after just finishing the Shakespeare version is school. Because this is a GONZO anime, it is definitely put with a creative twist. It has its up and downs but it makes a good watch overall…especially with the recent episodes.
Kaze no Stigma (1-7): Despite the fact that this was the anime I was looking forward to most before the season started and the only currently-watched series that I was actually planning to watch, it’s at the bottom. While it is getting better (and rather humorous), it’s still at the bottom.
Fail:
Hayate the Combat Butler (1-5): I must not get the joke or something because I have NOT laughed once during the five episodes I gave this. Maybe I’m just a stone cold person but a lot of series that I like have comedic moments and I find myself laughing hard at those. Anyways, while I do get some of the parodies that this series offer, I just don’t find the parodies anything special. It seems like a cheap trick to me.
Mahou Shoujou Lyrical Nanoha Strikers S(1): To be honest, I had never even heard of Nanoha before everyone started anticipating this premiere. It was a dull watch with nothing that made me remotely care and I heard even Nanoha fanboys think its crap.
Heroic Age (1): While the animation was top-notch (for Xebec at least), the plot was sleep inducing. In the end, this just frustrated me. If Xebec could spend this much for this piece of dog turd, then why couldn’t it give Busou Renkin a higher budget?
Bokurano (1): Everything about this show was a turn off. The pace was horribly slow, I found the character designs beyond irritating, oh and I’ve never liked mecha. So there you go.
Lucky Star (1): Besides the random OP, nothing made this remotely interesting. I didn’t even find that end segment thing funny with that weird chick. Oh and how the heck did the OP single get #2 on Oricon?
Seto no Hanayome (1): I actually read the manga for this and that did not make this show any less retarded. I didn’t even crack a smile once and I hate the OP beyond reason.
On Haitus:
Saiunkoku Monogatari II (1): Saiunkoku Monogatari is my favorite anime actually. However, after the wonderful first episode, all the subs stopped due to licensing. So I shall be watching this raw during the summer as practice for my Japanese class.
Final Grade: A
This season is looking great. Especially since I only stuck through one series throughout the entire winter and fall season combined. I hope the top notch of this season continues to be top notch.

June 1st, 2007 at 12:55 pmThe thing with Nanoha is, that its series never had a good begining. It only starts to et really interesting when the antagonists fully arrive, which, in StrikerS still hasn’t happened after six episodes.

June 1st, 2007 at 10:20 pmI definitely disagree with some of your fails (Hayate and Bokurano are both on my “good” list ^^), but it’s nice to read others takes on things.
*psst* As for Saiunkoku Monogatari II … *whisper* there are some groups that are planning to sub it (I’m in the SM LJ comm). There are no eps. up yet, but expect some soon from new fansub groups Lucky Clover and Sweet Secret (hope I got those names right…) ^__^

psgels>I’ll take your word for it since I actually agree with most of your opinions. However, Nanoha seems like a moe show for lolicons with the way all the fanboys are drooling over this moe and that moe.
Milly>LOL I’m like one of the pickiest people on the planet so there you go. But as for Saiunkoku Monogatari II, O RLY? I knew that there were plans for subbing groups but I never thought it would get through…Awesome ^^.
