Impressions: Lucky Star

Panzer Magier   May 11, 2007

After some small technical problems, this draft is finally going to be published…..I hope. So, I choose to talk about the fairly controversial anime Lucky Star of Kyoani fame, producers of famous work such as Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu and FMP. So below is my extremely boring two cents on my thoughts regarding this production.

...

First and foremost, the OP is the most awesome thing since Hare Hare Yukai (think I said something like this somewhere before). I couldn’t make out a single thing said in the lyrics either, but the animation and song is godly crazy (in a good way), so all is well within the world. There is, or at least should be, unanimous consent that the OP is crafted out of sheer brilliance. If interested at all (and hopefully you will still retain some sanity should you try it), a human performance of the OP has been found quite some time ago, courtesy of Demian at Otakuism. Oh, I also have to thank him for pointing me to the AMEXD project, or else I wouldn’t be writing this post right now. But I digress.

The actual content of the anime: here is where the people separate into two groups, either with or against the show. From my perspectives, I have to say that, although I can see why some people might be against it, I certainly find no real faults to pick on it. For one, the animation is very smooth throughout, and the artwork is definitely a nice change. The colour is bright and cheerful, and I can spot details when there need be some. The food talk in the beginning of ep 1 is rather dull, but once you get past that mark things get fairly better. Granted, not much ever goes on, and unbelievable plot revelations will probably never happen, but perhaps it can also be seen as part of its beauty, that there really isn’t much to it beyond what meets the eye. Music…is ok, some tracks gave a really nice laid-back feeling, but overall nothing distracting, and no news is good news to me.

I understand that after seeing Kanon and Haruhi-sama, this show may look like a below-par piece of mediocre work, but I would suggest that the viewers take this show for what it’s worth and enjoy it to the fullest. I know I’ll enjoy it after a day of laziness hard work, just sit back, relax, and enjoy another wonderful work by Kyoani. It was a 4-koma to begin with, so we should probably take it at its face value and laugh along everytime something tickles our fancy.

So that was My thoughts on this show. Well, that was a good waste of 1-ish hr. Now, I shall go back and do some homework that I should have got done by last night. Ugh. School’s evil. I wonder if they teach which side of of a shell-shaped pastry is the head there?

P.S. Forgive me Darren! I’ll never ignore you again! T.T

I don't have awesome writing, nor am I fully sane, so...just bare with it. I'm also not a picture person, so don't expect to see more than one color at a time.

Well I guess I’m at the other side of the spectrum because Lucky Star was very painful to watch. But then again I have never liked a single comedy anime so that may be why. Or I just don’t get the jokes.

Well even though lucky star really has no plot/moral/theme or anything else for that matter it is still pretty funny. The whole concept of just not having any plot is already funny enough, not to mention the nothingness they talk about. The first episode really wasn’t that good, yet as it progressed i got better. If you try Lucky Star out, and have a lot of patience, I can tell you that you will not hate it as much.
