Top 5 OP This Season
Gary Tang May 3, 2007
Time to cut even more time into my homework period. Apparently, time management doesn’t exist in my dictionary. Anyhow, I’ve being watching quite a few series this season (in fact, I’ve probably hit a personal record for the most amount of anime watched at a time), which inspired me to write this post. That, and the fact that I need something to meet my quota due in 4 days. It must be the spring fever or something, but those anime producers seriously came up with quite a few amazing OP this season. The following is my list of the best OP’s I’ve seen, in terms of initial impression left for me, and for the purpose of this post the title of each series is linked to the corresponding youtube video…if I don’t fail to link it correctly.
Yup, you heard me right. Disagree with me? Bite me. No, please don’t take that literally. I placed this in the 5th place because it simply didn’t have a whole lot of impression on me. Granted, the song is good and the animation is fluid, but that’s about it. Still, considering all the OP I’ve seen so far, 5th is pretty high on the chart.
This one was actually kind of hard for me, because I really liked the OP. However, after considering the remainder of the list, I thought that this is a fitting place. Gonzo did a great job on this series, and the OP is very nice. Gokudou band + great song = win. Although that’s not the only thing this series won lol.
3. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
Although I really don’t have a high opinion of the Nanoha series, I have to say this is one of the best OP I’ve ever seen…that I remember seeing lol. It’s catchy, the animation blended perfectly with the music, pretty gorgeous designs, and the tv version is so much better than the full version in my opinion. Definitely worth a look, even if you hate Nanoha completely.
2. Bokurano
Chiaki Ishikawa is an absolutely wonderful singer, and this song is really brought to light by her talent. The biggest impact is obviously the song itself, but the animation is also pretty fluid and shows certain possibilities that this show could bring. The two suspenses work together to form the 2nd place on my top list. Good stuff, a must hear.
Whew, we are finally here. I’m dying from all those images and hyper-linking. This is the last one, so if you could kindly cue some drum-roll inside your head, it’d be much appreciated. And the winner is…
1. Lucky ☆ Star
Duh. In my previous post (if it ever gets put on the main site *me stares at Darren*) as well as in the forums I stated how much I loved the OP. Saying that I’ve watched it 50 times now would be no exaggeration. Kinda got tired of it from watching it non-stop, but I still love it for what it is, which is the best OP since ever. This is one OP you cannot possibly miss out in your entire life, so watch it NOW if you havn’t already went blind from replaying it 50 times.
My god this has to be the most troublesome post on anything I’ve ever written. I’m dead tired now. Going to finish my homework now and rest in peace. Hopefully everything worked out fine so I won’t have to come back and fix it from heaven. Ugh, homework…

May 4th, 2007 at 8:44 amNice to see Seto no Hanayome up there, definitely deserving of its place.
I understand the KyoAni bias (and who doesn’t love KyoAni!), but saying Lucky Star’s OP is the “best ever OP” is very much stretching it. Young one, now is the time revisit the old classics. Off the top of my head, I would say Lupin III because the song is a legendary classic and the OP scenes (for their time) are very artistic. See for yourself:

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lucky Star and its OP is catchy, but it’s not in the league of the best.

May 4th, 2007 at 10:54 amYeah I’m probably stretching it too much, couldn’t help it though, because my fanboy blood boils pretty hard for little crazy things that make life that much more interesting lol.
Btw, I checked out the OP and, although I don’t know how big of a hit it might have been, it’s a little retro for my taste. Understandably, it’s a classical song and the drawing style might have been artisitic(?), but it’s a little…below modern par. I blame everything on youth lol.

May 4th, 2007 at 1:07 pmlmao @ Lupin the 3rd. I love that OP. That’s pretty great. The Lucky Star OP is good and all but it’s too much moe girls to keep my attention. If I was to make this list it would have to include Darker than Black’s op somewhere. I find myself humming the song at work.
My top ops from all time. xD

May 5th, 2007 at 6:38 amI swear to God, I must be the only person who DOESN’T like the Seto no Hanayome OP. I like the rest of the OPs you mentioned though. However, I thought a lot of the OPs were really weak this season. Then again, I usually don’t like OP songs that much.

May 5th, 2007 at 4:03 pmlmao poor Kiseki. I’m not really big on the op of Seto no Hanayome. Too much freaking dancing with like a beach boys summer type of song. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m fast forwarding through it. xD

May 9th, 2007 at 11:28 amI have to agree with you about Lucky Star! It’s like Azumanga Daioh on crack with a dash of Steel Angel Kurumi sprinkled everywhere ^_^
I’ve seen the opening myself about the same times as you have.
