Yes you read that right, those crazy anime writers have gone and tried to learn Spanish. For those of you who don’t know what the title means I’ll be happy to tell you, just as soon as I figure it out myself…

This anime is actually looking pretty promising. Set in a weird future of the past cowboys roam the, what I’m assuming is the, west, looking for crazy adventures and the occasional bar fight. The story follows a member of everyones favorite type of low-life, the bounty hunter.

So far all we know of the characters is that Nadie is bounty hunter with a crack shot who is trying to collect the bounty on Ellis. Ellis is wanted for murder, which she knows she committed but her minds blank on the how part. My guess is that its got something to do with the psychic-like power Ellis has. While neither we nor she know the extent of her abilities, we do know she can heat metal enough to set off a bullet. There is also a really tall guy who is traveling with a small young girl. There names are never told us and they don’t really do anything of interested, but they do show up in the OP and the episode takes time off of Nadie and Ellis to focus on this strange pair.

Just to confuse the watcher, at certain parts in the episode we leave the wild west to time warp to now. The man who placed the bounty on Ellis’s head works in a office building in a modern city. We don’t know what his business actually does, but I’m going to go ahead and assume that he is either a lawyer or a stock broker. He just seems to evil for anything else.

The artwork is rather pretty, but its not so much the visuals that make El Cazador de la Bruja (or El Caz as I have lovingly decided to call it) stand out. The musical score in El Caz is really quite beautiful. The soundtrack is heavily influenced by Mexican and Texan music. The music both adds believability to the story and is a great hook to keep you watching (or at least listening). I’m reminded of .hack// both for the musicians love of violins and just how well the music works for the show. Surprisingly, the weakest score in the show, in my opinion, would be the starting theme. The thing that I must enjoy though is comparatively small, but is whats going to make sure I keep watching this series. Japanese attempting to speak Spanish. They sound absolutely hilarious. If you watch this show for no other reason, then watch it for the laughs the voice actors attempts will bring you.

Overall I give the first episode of El Caz 8 shots in the dark out of 10
