Elfen Lied

Darren Pangan   January 24, 2007

Elfen LiedThe reason I got this Anime is because it is always recommended by members of Anime forums whenever someone asks for some good titles. When I bought the DVDs, the person I bought it from told me it was a very good choice and that it will keep me up all night during my Anime binge. And he was absolutely right. I watched episodes until I fell asleep for a few straight nights until I finished the whole series. It was simply awesome. Elfen Lied Anime series was derived from the manga by Lynn Okamoto and it was originally run in Japan from July 25, 2004 to October 17, 2004.

Possible spoilers follow…
If you are into some seriously emotional stuff, this series is for you. The story is really good which is a mix of sci-fi action, mystery, and drama. There are few humorous scenes but as the story progress, it gets darker and darker. This 13-episode series revolves around mutants called “Diclonious”. A diclonious possesses invisible arms giving them some sort of telekinetic ability. They are extremely powerful and considered a threat to the human race. For this reason, they are locked up in a highly secured laboratory for research.

One of the main characters is a diclonious named Lucy. She escaped from the laboratory but the struggle with the guards injured her gave her amnesia giving her the inability to speak clearly. She was found by Kouta and Yuka and the two decided to give Lucy a shelter at Kouta’s home.
End of possible spoilers…

The Girls of Elfen LiedThe soundtrack of the series was a German song entitled Elfen Lied. To me, it sounded creepy and gave me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It added darkness and extreme sense of emotion to the series. I think this theme is very appropriate for the story.

I liked the series mainly for the drama and the story. As the series go on, you will see some random stuff that will be somewhat random but will slowly become clearer and clearer as the story progress, going to a surprising and interesting conclusion. This kind of stuff is what I usually look for even in non-animated movies that I watch. I really can’t imagine anything I didn’t like about the anime. To me Elfen LIed is a great work of art.

I highly recommend this to anime fans but be aware because this show has a lot of violence in it and some nudity. So don’t let the kids watch it until they turn 18. :P

Elfen Lied was a pretty good.. depressing, but good anime.

I wouldn’t recommend Elfen Lied for the weak-stomach otaku fans… but it’s an interesting anime.

    Why interesting?

Well, it has to do with genetic mutations of human beings.. I’m sure you otaku fans can think of other animes that have humans or other beings that are different, which lead them to be “shunned” and abused in society.. and then suddenly a compassionate yet handsome anime guy comes along, and.. er.. you know the story.

Hardships, Tragic Love, a TON of Nostalgia, a brooding atmosphere of death at every corner.. and every episode, and alot more.

This anime is highly recommended, but again.. it is depressing as hell.

    Watch it. ^_^0

I am sure that this is the best anime I have ever watched.
I couldn´t stop watching it and so I get sleep at 4:30 am, I´ve watched the whole 13 series and after that I was very sad and melodramatic, but was quiet a little bit funny, because I´ve felt that the first time by watching a anime.

All in all I would recomend it to other persons and sombody knows other animes like that, please send the titles of them to phoenixpaul@web.de
