Ah My Goddess! Ah My Review!

Cheesy title? Yeah, I know. I’m trying to spice up my title a little bit and that’s all I can come up with. Well anyway, let’s just talk about the anime, shall we? Alright. This one’s about an OVA (Original Video Animation, same as OAV) I saw a few years ago. Back then it was like the most talked about anime not only in our school but on the internet as well.
Because of the title, at first (I don’t know if it’s just me) but I thought it was Hentai. So out of curiousity, I bought the video series. The title of the anime is “Ah My Goddess!”, and it’s not Hentai. It was actually a comedy-fantasy anime that has 5 episodes. It came from a manga created by Kosuke Fujishima that started quite a long time ago (1988). This anime video was released on February 2, 1993.
The story began when the main character, Keiichi Morisato was alone in their dorm. He wanted to order some pizza but he accidentaly dialed the number to the Goddess Office. Suddenly, a beautiful lady dressed like a princess came out of nowhere to Keiichi’s surprise. The lady is Belldandy and she’s a goddess, literally. According to her, she came to grant one wish from Keiichi. Thinking it was all a prank pulled off by his roommates, Keiichi wished for Belldandy to stay with him forever. Then Belldady declared that his wish was granted and Keiichi’s stuck with a goddess for the rest of his life. Belldandy’s not the only goddess in this series. There are also her sisters, Urd and Skuld who came and lived with them too.
The video that I bought was already dubbed in English. I think the voice actors in this version are good. About the music, I really don’t remember anything special about it but I remember having the opening theme as a ring tune for my cellphone, which I got from one of some network gimmick.
Eventhough it seem’s like more of girl flick, I still enjoy watching this anime simply because it’s funny. The concept is nice too and the story’s not bad at all. I don’t remember anything bad about it. I lend the video to some of my friends (girls) and they really liked it. But I would also recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a good laugh. Go grab the video!
