Blood The Last Vampire, An Awesome Film

Darren Pangan   January 14, 2007

Blood The Last VampireThis 48-minute long movie, that came out on November 18, 2000, has to be one of the best animated movie that I’ve ever seen. I first saw it on video and to this day, I’ve already watched it over quite a few times already. It’s not very popular in my place but that’s only because it’s never marketed.

This movie is a mix of action, horror, and suspense. Some scenes are pretty scary and the action is just amazing. There’s a lot of violence and brutal scenes in the film but I don’t recall seeing any nudity. The fictional story happened in Yokota Airbase located in post-WWII Japan before the beginning of the Vietnam War.

The main protagonist in this story is a girl named Saya. As the title of the movie implies, Saya is the remaining pure-blooded vampire. She works for the US government and her job was to kill other vampires. We can imagine her to be a female Blade (played by Westley Snipes in the film trilogy). Like Blade, she’s a quiet person (or should I say vampire) and she uses a sword to hunt down and destroy her targets. Her mission in this movie is to search vampiric demons in a school located in the airbase I mentioned a while ago. She came in to that school as a student.

Another thing that impressed me while watching this movie is the language. When Saya’s talking to a Japanese person, she speaks Japanese and an English subtitle appears in the screen. When talking to American authorities, she speaks English so there’s no need for a translation. Another thing that was pretty impressive in this film is the animation. They used a combination of 2D and 3D graphics and it turned out great.

Like I said, this movie is one of my favorites. Everything in the movie is good and I don’t recall anything not so good about it. I enjoyed every second of the movie and got carried away sometimes. I encourage everyone to watch this film exept for the minors as this movie contains lots of blood and violence.
